Boots&Tracks and Boots&Tracks!

Winter is the season of tracking! 

Along with a typical day at Outdoor School, we will be playing highlight tracking games and challenges such as Weasel versus Vole, 100-track Challenge, and other all-time favourite GOS winter games.  

Our expeditions in tracking will take place far and wide along the Eramosa River.  Through our senses we gather up the data.  Scratch marks on a tree, clear prints in the snow, a change in gait, and a hot trail.  We use our imagination to tell the story of what has happened.  Playing hide & go-seek with the animals, we follow the clues left behind in hopes of solving the mystery of who's who.  

On this occasion of primitive puzzle-solving, we focus on pattern recognition, understanding how animals move through the landscape, interpreting their behaviour, and asking questions about what they might be doing.

How big are the beasts we are dealing with?  Bring your ruler, magnifying glass, and journal to measure and record the data of the trails, beds, and scats.
