Songcatching

  • The Guelph Outdoor School 733 Stone Road East Guelph, ON, N1E 3J3 Canada (map)

Singing together has long been a survival skill used by people around the world. We sing to celebrate, to mourn, to connect, to offer gratitude, and to help us learn and grow. It is a deep part of our human nature. We believe that singing is not about talent or skill! It is about feeling connected to each other and the earth as a community; it is about sharing our voices together simply for the joy of it!

In this workshop, led by Brooke and Carolyn, we will learn together many of the beautiful songs that we love to sing on a regular basis at GOS. We will practice some "song-catching" exercises and talk about different ways to receive inspiration for songs from nature. We will also attune ourselves to the wordless music that exists all around us in the natural world. There will be time to simply connect to the land.

This workshop is as participatory as you want it to be. Singing can feel intimidating to many of us and this workshop aims to meet you wherever you are in terms of your comfort zone!
