Quiet Mind Connection | Adult Workshop

  • The Guelph Outdoor School 733 Stone Road East Guelph, ON, N1E 3J3 Canada (map)

Registration for this workshop is open!

In this workshop you will learn foundational awareness skills that will broaden your sensory perception and heighten your attunement to the dynamic rhythms of the natural world. Through experiencing our senses fully and cultivating inner and outer quietness, we root ourselves more deeply into the connective fabric that binds us with the ebb and flow of the Earth.

This workshop will invite you to slow the pace of the busy mind and relax your body into a deeper awareness, awakening you to your intuitive design and helping you reclaim your connection as a natural, enlivened and radiant human being.

Session price: $75 +HST. If cost is a barrier, please see our Economics for a Changing World page for sliding-scale and mutual aid options.

Through enlivening and fun activities, you will learn:

Effective and easy grounding techniques

- In our modern world rarely do we have our bare feet touching the soil of the forest. When we simply take off our shoes and feel the texture and condition of the soil, it immediately changes how we move and interact with our surroundings. Studies are starting to show that our relationship with actually physically touching the earth's surface is essential for our health and wellbeing.

Exercises to develop your "body radar" or "inner compass"

- We are trained to rely heavily on our analytical mind rather than our intuitive awareness. You will learn skills that help you center in your intuitive abilities and live in a more balanced state of being, In doing this, your awareness will begin to flow between your analytical mind and your intuitive awareness in a focused and dynamic way. This will help you to gain a deeper experience and fullness of life.

Sense meditations

- We will explore and learn to develop both our external sensory perception and our internal sensory perception. Often in our busy and noisy lives our senses become overloaded and dull. Through learning to balance our outer and inner senses, we broaden our scope of awareness and sharpen our senses to fully experience the present moment in a deeper and more fulfilling way.

Methods for cultivating stillness

- Explore both static and dynamic methods for cultivating stillness. In our busy lives we need to make time to sit still and be present to our internal state of being while developing a sense of inner calmness and presence. Our lives are not lived in stillness though. Because our lives are ever changing and dynamic, we will learn to hone our awareness and center it as a moment to moment practice, enlivened and alive in any experience we may encounter.

Earth Paced Walking techniques

- If you ever sit on a park bench or downtown in a city you will notice how quickly people are moving. Always seemingly in a hurry to arrive at some unknown destination. They are in a bubble, usually unaware of everything happening around them.

Through slowing down our physical motion and practicing to expand our awareness, we become more attuned to our surroundings and able to function in a state of greater connection.

Quiet Mind Connection is led by Jordan Roth. While living outside for two years, Jordan immersed himself in the natural cycles of the Earth. Through consciously engaging his various senses beyond the analytical mind, he began to nurture a more grounded, peaceful and focused approach to living. Jordan believes that quietness in Nature is a powerful tool for cultivating wellness and presence. He is passionate about helping people enliven their inner and outer connection with the natural world. Jordan has been mentoring people in relation to Nature Connection for the past 10 years.

“The Quiet Mind workshop was a transformative experience for me. I am so grateful to Jordan for sharing his knowledge and perspective with us. It felt much different than previous well-being or mindfulness type workshops I've done previously. It was humble and understated, while providing a depth of learning I could not have imagined. In the past, I've struggled with mindfulness, but this workshop presented information and experiences in an approachable way. I've found myself continuing to reflect on what I learned, and look at the events in my daily life with new awareness. In turn, this has allowed me to see choices about how to go forward where before I had been stuck. My sincere thanks to Jordan and GOS for this experience.” - Past participant
