Registration for this workshop opens on Wednesday, March 13th at 10 am.
Workshop dates: Saturdays April 20, May 18, 2 and June 15, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
With spring's rushing waters and bursting buds come increased animal and insect activity, bird migration and abundant plant life. As new life emerges all around us, what better time to hone our naturalist knowledge?
In three sessions from April to June, we'll take a deep dive into the ecology of the Eramosa River valley, building our knowledge of local flora and fauna as the season unfolds. Throughout these hands-on workshops we'll be exploring getting outside, learning together and get excited about our many wild neighbours.
This unique mini-series is led by a team of Guelph Outdoor School instructors, each with their own specialized knowledge and skills. Together, they invite you to explore our rich urban nature through the eyes of trained foragers, wildlife trackers, birders, artists and plant propagators with a passion for sharing their deep love of this land.
In this series, participants can expect to learn about:
- tree and shrub ID
- using native and non-native plants for food and medicine
- animal tracks and signs
- birding and bird language
- insect life
- local geology
- and so much more!
Session price: $225 +HST. If cost is a barrier, please see our Economics for a Changing World page for sliding-scale and mutual aid options.
Are you looking to go deeper than a one-day workshop, but not ready to commit to one of our full-year programs? This series is a great option!
