Welcome back to GOS’ signature birding workshop! TThis Autumn we will focus on the great southward migration – a slower, but often grander mass-movement, compared to its spring counterpart. In this single session we will hopefully get to know several groups of birds that will be migrating through our area, such as the wood-warblers, the hawks and other raptors, the sparrows, and the waterfowl. Some of these winged friends utilise the landscape around us as a valuable migration stopover habitat, others may arrive here to spend the winter from their breeding grounds in the great boreal forest or the arctic. Under the wing of GOS bird nerds Matt Iles and Miki Tamblyn, you can expect to share tools for listening to bird language, ID tips and tricks, and will have a chance to jam on anything feathered (yes even dinosaurs).
Session price: $70 +HST. If cost is a barrier, please see our Economics for a Changing World page for sliding-scale and mutual aid options.
On the Wing is birding à la Guelph Outdoor School - rooted in curiosity, awareness, and inclusivity – designed for absolute beginner to fully-fledged bird-nerd. Every feather found is a tracking mystery waiting to be unravelled.
On The Wing is hosted by GOS bird wizards Matthew Iles and Miki Tamblyn.
Dress for the weather, with sturdy footwear for a bit of a hike. Bring a snack, a lunch, hot beverage and binoculars if you have them. On The Wing takes place at GOS’ Stone Road site.
