Earth Education: The Outdoors As Teacher

  • The Guelph Outdoor School 733 Stone Road East Guelph, ON, N1E 3J3 Canada (map)

A Workshop for Parents and Educators

The world’s climate, technology and economy are changing at a dizzying pace.  And Education needs to change with them.

Join GOS founder and co-director Chris Green for this introductory workshop exploring nature connection in the world of education and parenting.

Earth Ed is about:

  • The Art of Questioning: driving curiosity, focus, and collaborative learning

  • Games that Teach: using games as a teaching tool

  • The Core Routines of Nature Connection: ongoing practices of nature connected kids

  • The Attributes of Nature Connection: learning outcomes beyond curriculum

  • Why Outside: the developmental reasons for education in the out-of-doors

  • Nature Connections is everywhere: connecting where you are

Session price: $70 +HST. If cost is a barrier, please see our Economics for a Changing World page for sliding-scale and mutual aid options.

Earth Ed. is guided by these central questions:

  • What will today’s children face in their adolescence and adulthood?

    How do we prepare them?

  • What must we adults unlearn about education?

  • How does nature connection help us get there?

This session is collaborative, drawing on the collective experiences and insights of participants, while being informed by ten years of stories from GOS’ outdoor classroom.  Just like outdoor school for kids, this workshop is designed to inspire, ask questions, and have fun.
