Winter's cold brings challenges for many of us, but how do the birds make it through the long winter nights? Many have already migrated south, but for the hardy bunch that stick around, their cold weather adaptations are remarkable.
Join us for a fire and a hike as we delve into all things winter bird-related - everything from Snowy Owls to the last of the migrating waterfowl. We will be looking at the usual suspects at the feeders and which rarities to look out for and when.
A second edition to our FlockShop series with ornithologist Matt Iles and field naturalist Adrian Iacovino. FlockShop is birding à la Guelph Outdoor School style. Just as much about nature connection as a cultural groundswell as it is about facts and information. Just as much about the season as the landscape. Just as much about connecting with yourself and others as it is about knowing the stats on each bird. This workshop is an easy venue for maintaining social distance. Dress for the weather, with sturdy footwear for a bit of a hike. Bring a snack, a lunch and a hot beverage.
GOS workshops run snow or sleet; we'll supply hot tea (BYO mug) and a crackling fire for comfort. Dress accordingly - wool socks, hat, and layers. Bring what you need to be comfortable and a mask. This will be a physically distanced event.
