Spring Sing | Adult Workshop

  • The Guelph Outdoor School 733 Stone Road East Guelph, ON, N1E 3J3 Canada (map)

Come celebrate Spring through song at the Guelph Outdoor School! For generations, people have gathered to share songs as a way to tell stories and strengthen community ties. In this workshop, we will meet in the morning to connect with the Eramosa River and the Cedar Forest, all while singing songs designed to promote connection to each other, to the land and to ourselves.

We'll sing some of the classic outdoor school tunes that many of us know and love, and learn new songs to share with your families, students and communities. Participants will be guided in many styles of community music making, like improvisational singing, percussion, rounds, "repeat after me" songs and songs in several parts.

This workshop is designed to meet you in your comfort zone with community singing. There will be opportunities to share your songs with the group, if you feel moved to do so. Please bring an instrument if you'd like, and come prepared to celebrate the joy of Spring through song.

Session price: $75 +HST. If cost is a barrier, please see our Economics for a Changing World page for sliding-scale and mutual aid options.

Alicia Miecznikowski and Carolyn Ross are musicians and educators who have collaborated on many nature connection programs for all age groups. Song is always foundational to what they do. They have collected and written many songs over the years, and are excited to share them and to create a space for others to sing and share songs, too.
